Bolts and bolting information can be found in this section where it is more relevant to climbing situations, but can also be found under Bolts and Anchors within the Caving section of the website. The Caving section tends to include hand driven gear for expedition use and one off placements that only require narrow 8 or 10mm bolts for rigging and progression, rather than shock loading.

In terms of climbing bolts, there are some choices to be made. Expansion bolts like the Petzl Goujon work well in harder rock types such as limestone, whilst rocks such as soft sandstones are more suited to resin-in anchors like the Collinox and Batinox.

10mm bolts were once the norm, but nowadays longer life and more resistance to repeated falls is expected and consequently 12 and 14mm bolts are now available. 10mm bolts are still relevant as they are quicker and therefore cheaper to drill (as well as buy) and therefore they are often used for double bolt lower-offs.

We stock a range of hangers from Petzl and Fixe in a variety if diameters and shapes, and a good steel ring for making solid lower-offs from Entreprises.
