Kahtoola KTS Steel

The Kahtoola® Traction System (KTS) fits over all types of flexible footwear. The steel version weigh only 662g and enable lighter flexible boots to be used where heavy mountain boots might normally be needed. For winter walking and hiking, mountain and glacier travel.

The Kahtoola KTS Steel is one of our most popular crampons and rightly so:

  • you don't need to go and buy a stiff winter boot,
  • you don't need to wear a stiff, heavy boot,
  • you don't need to go and buy a boot specific crampon,
  • you don't need to carry a bulky, heavy crampon,

to go out walking and hiking in the winter or travel through mountainous regions.

Climbers who need to get across short glacier sections to the foot of harder rock routes (e.g. Chamonix Aiguilles, Bugaboos) can benefit from the weight savings of a superlight crampon and lighter weight approach footwear by using a Kahtoola KTS Steel crampon.

KTS crampons fit and work with most footwear from running shoes through approach shoes and walking boots and on to ski and snowboard boots. This is all possible due to the easy to use adjustable click buckled straps and the patented flexible LeafSpring® extender bar.

The KTS Steel uses robust chromoly steel that will cope with rocky terrain and choppy ice without wearing the points down. It folds down into a compact bundle to save space in your pack when they're not in use. 

If you want to clip your crampons to your harness for quick access or just want to save the kit in your pack from damage check out the Kahtoola Tote Sack. Whilst the Kahtoola Snow Release Skins will reduce the chance of your KTS steels from Balling up with snow and causing unexpected slips and slides.

Leki Thermolite

These are sold as individual poles. This pole is lightweight due to the use of narrower diameter pole sections compared with some Leki models: i.e. 12, 14 and 16mm. It has a Thermo grip: a soft foam handle that absorbs vibration and sweat and is lightweight and insulating. The pole uses the 'Super Lock System' which means that it has a holding force of at least 140Kg and a minimum of 360 degree reverse turn from the fully tightened postion before the pole starts to collapse. It has a handle top which is egg-shaped for comfort when holding the handle from above: the Aergon handle. It also has a hard wearing Carbide Flextip and safety strap.
