Lightweight ice axe.

The Grivel Air Tech Axe is superb. We would favour this axe for general alpine mountaineering use and also has a partner to a more technical tool on moderately difficult alpine faces if weight was important. The low weight of this Air Tech evolution makes it an ideal choice for high altitude trips where every gram means a lot of effort and also for ski mountaineering too.

The head is hot-forged from a single piece of steel and has become established as an alpine classic.

The shaft’s gentle curve just below the head gives greater clearance when swinging the axe over bulges whilst the lower straight part of the shaft will plunge into snow with little effort.

The Air tech Evolution is also compatible with the Easy Slider 2.0, the hand rest (combined with spring leash) that can be slid to the top of the shaft out of the way when required or to the bottom to support the hand. The most advanced axe technology, all in under 500 grams! Both Axe and Hammer are the same weight.

The grip is flush with the shaft so that it mates perfectly with the Grivel Steel Blade Shovel. Find this in our Avalanche Safety section.

  • Hot Forged T rated pick
  • T rated shaft
  • Compatible with the Easy Slider 2.0 and Grivel Steel Shovel
  • Weight: 473g
