Wire gate carabiner

The Ocun Kestrel uses an i-beam construction which means the best use of the metal to make a light and strong karabiner. The wire gate helps maintain the light and simple design and eliminates gate flutter and reduces the chance of snow and ice accumulation and freezing up of the gate in winter conditions.

We love it for traditional climbing and Alpine climbing where limiting weight is essential. It is also light enough and compact enough that you can use it as a racking karabiner, firm in the knowledge that it is fully rated and therefore can be used as a backup if you run out of quickdraws.

Ocun Kestrel ReviewOcun Kestrel Review: I grabbed a few of these for my trip to the Mont Blanc Massif this summer. I needed some new lightweight karabiners and when comparing the feel and weight of the options out there it was a clear choice between the DMM Phantom and these. I already have a number of Phantoms on my rack on the quickdraws and to be honest fancied something different to go on a couple of 8mm x 60cm slings and a couple of cams. The funky colours of the Kestrel finally really won me over and the price was a real pleasant surprise.
Using them is a pleasure, they handle well, feel reassuringly positive and weigh next to nothing. I now have these instead of accessory krabs for racking my microwires too.
