This brand new approach shoe from Arc'teryx is a super lightweight beast; weighing at only 300 grams (size 8), it's around 50 to 100 grams lighter than the nearest competition! It's minimalist build ensures a light, comfortable shoe for anyone looking to tackle light approaches.

Complete with a rock solid Vibram Megagrip sole and a TPU midfoot chassis with a raised midsole perimeter sidewalls, you'll have all the stability needed for tricky, shifting surfaces.

Whether you want something to look good on the crags or just down the shops, you'll be hard pushed to find an approach to match the Konseal FL.

George Hawksworth Arcteryx Konseal FL review:

I have had these shoes since March 2018, so seven months, and have worn them almost every day with varying terrain, hours of use per day, and load carried with them. Before I start the critical analysis of these shoes, it is worth noting that this review is purely based on my experiences, expectations and research of the shoes.

The Konseal FL is a lightweight approach shoe for light travel in the mountains and cragging days. Arc’teryx have been very clever and managed to cut the weight right down to 300g a shoe. That’s over 150g lighter than any other shoe designed for the same task.
I have used them countless times for many different activities and they have surpassed all my expectations. So what were my expectations? Well, when I was told that they are 150g lighter than anything else, I thought there must be a performance floor somewhere. Durability? Stability? Comfort?

At seven months old, and hundreds of miles on all sorts of terrains, only the slightest showing of wear and tear is apparent. So that is a big tick for something so light!

For their weight, the stability is outstanding. I tend to roll over on my ankle even on tarmac in trainers because I’m incompetent at walking in floppy shoes. I am amazed at how well they cope with scrambling and really uneven ground. I managed to walk with 20kg on my back for three days in these shoes and I’d admit; they weren’t ideal and I had very tired feet and calves by the end of it, but I doubt I’d have been much better off with anything else this side of a walking boot with ankle support.

I have narrow feet and Arc’teryx tends to make a narrow shoe. The Konseal fits me well and the heel area is very well designed. The ankle area is low enough as to not feel rubbing (which is often an issue for me) and my Achilles tendon doesn’t feel pinched by the back. The heel is firmly planted and I have room to wiggle all my toes. Something that is hard to get right in a shoe.
All in all, I am very impressed with the Arc’teryx Konseal FL and likely to buy a second pair when these eventually wear out. A key phrase to note in this review though is “for their weight”. These things are seriously light. Like bare foot light. In general, when equipment is lightweight, it sacrifices other attributes such as the aforementioned durability, stability and comfort. So I will end saying this, the Arc’teryx Konseal FL shoe isn’t the most durable shoe on the market, nor is it the most stable, but to be as light as it is with the level of those other attributes makes this shoe a cut above the rest.

Comfort: 4/5
Stability: 3/5
