Traditional 3-4 season leather boot

The Garmont Zion GTX is a traditional 3-4 season boot with one piece full-grain leather. When almost all leather boots have a stitched in tongue these days this construction is somewhat rare and gives the benefit of very little water ingress through waxed leather through to the goretex membrane. The membrane will stop water of course, but it's even better if it doesn't get to it - less water means less weight!  This is a quality leather boot made for the discerning mountain walker and backpacker!

The Zion GTX has a firm flex and tall cuff which gives great support for boggy off-the-trail terrain, steep scree and dealing with heavy loads when trekking. Despite all this the boot is light for this class of boot - 1.5Kg for a UK8 pair.

The boot has a one piece construction which has already been pointed out above. It's also worth mentioning that the leather is 2.6mm thick which, when the proofing is maintained, gives great weather protection. The tall cuff also provies protection for the foot and lessens the liklihood of trail debris entering, although gaiters are always recommended for serious boggy areas or when bashing through tall wet grass.

The Zion GTX has a FrameFlex mid nylon insole which delivers the appropriate blend of stability and flexibility to haul heavy loads for a long distance in comfort. Beneath this there is a dual density expanded PU midsole for comfort.

The Vibram New Winkler outsole on the Zion GTX has semi blocked lugs in the toe and heel area for maximum contact which is of benefit on steep rocky paths. Elsewhere the outsole has deep multi-directional chevron lugs for good grip in muddy conditions.

Size wise Garmont sizes similar to Zamberlan, i.e. they are a bit small for their size, so if you are comapring to Scarpa, Meindl or many other brands we recommend going up half a size.

  • 2.6mm one piece oiled leather
  • Frameflex midsole
  • Vibram New Winkler Outsole
  • Goretex Performance Comfort waterproof lining
  • Tall cuff
  • Weight: 750g per UK8 boot
