All the altimeters we stock are from Suunto, designed in Finland. As well as altimeters Suunto also make excellent heart rate monitor training watches. These can be found on in the Heartrate Monitors Section.

Altimeters can be very useful tools for mountaineers, skiers and hill-walkers. When used correctly they can give very accurate information on altitude. Some provide barometric pressure trends which can help the user anticipate weather changes, and they can assist in locating position or in navigation when used with a map.

Some altimeters have a 5m height resolution such as the Vector, but the X3HR has a resolution of 1m. They all work on pressure changes with height gain or loss and so they can be fooled by big pressure changes caused by incoming fronts for example. However, if corrected altitudes are entered at known points on a route, typically a summit, then this effect is minimal. Most models can be placed in a Barometer mode in which all pressure changes are seen as just that, changes in pressure rather than changes in altitude. This is very useful in monitoring the weather overnight.
