Alpine rucksack
The Crux 3G AK47-X RT has most of the same great features as the Crux 3G AK47 RT but with a floating/removable lid and the same as the 3G AK47-X just with a roll top closure under the hood which makes this one a waterproof rucksack - awesome. Perfect for when you have to huff in huge loads to a camp and then need to strip the sack down to minimise weight or when you want to ditch the lid but still have a waterproof rucksack without need for a liner.
This super-tough rucksack, utilizes a Kevlar-based
fabric for the body, but weighs just under 1.2kg. Meaning that its
built to withstand the knocks and scrapes of regular demanding climbing,
but it won't slow you down. Hence the Crux 3G AK47-X RT is a must have pack for the discerning Alpinist.
The 3G AK47-XRT is the new icon of the Crux range and is now in their 3rd iteration of the 3rd generation
(hence the 3G suffix). The changes for this version are few but are
extremely significant as the amount of Kevlar used in the body fabric
has gone from 28 to 40% bumping up durability, plus the minimal seams
are now welded making the pack properly water-resistant . The
axe carrying system is improved to cope with all modern tools.
With minimal seams and zero fuss design mean minimal weaknesses,
which when combined the choice of materials make it bomber. The harness,
ultra light M-Frame and ergonomic shape mean that the carry is super
comfortable, well balanced and unrestrictive even with hefty loads. The
waist-belt is very low profile giving little interference with harness
and clothing and includes loops for attaching gear loops if required.
The floating lid means that an extra 5 litres capacity
is available or that a bulky frozen rope can be stored separately from
the body of the pack. The lid is also removable meaning that the pack
can be paired down for summit day.
The size of the pack make it ideal for; day routes where you need to carry plenty of gear, winter climbing and single or multi day Alpine rock, snow or mixed routes. Having said that when its empty its so light you will hardly notice it. The backpack features side ski mounts making it ideal for ski mountaineering as well.
The excellent fit and carry is achieved by clever design, high
surface contact with your back, load carry close to your back and the
use of 2 different size options:
Size 2 suits a 50cm back length and a typical height range of 170-180cm.
Size 3 suits a 55cm back length and a typical height range of 180-190cm.
Please note that back lengths are measured from the top of the
pelvis to the top of the shoulder and that height range is only a
guideline and may not be right for your particular proportions
When fitting a pack the hip-belt should wrap around the top of the pelvis, so that the hips are able to share the overall load. Some climbers,
however, prefer to carry their rucksack around their waist, i.e. above
the pelvis and may prefer a rucksack with a shorter back length.
Both Crux and Up and Under
recommend whenever possible trying on rucksacks before making your final
choice. By all means order 2 different sizes and use our returns
procedure to send back the least suitable size.
