Expedition rucksack

The Crux AK 70 has been used and abused for a number of years now and now it reaches new heights in a fully waterproof roll top closure under the removable hood design. This latest incarnation called 3G should really be 3G3 as the 3G redesign was originally a non-roll top pack made from Kevlar/Cordura using a fully welded construction. The roll top pack then came out with metal G-hook buckles, shock-corded ice axe head holders and a single zip-pulled lid (version in current image). This has all been replaced by quick-release buckles, nylon webbing retained ice-axe head holders and a double zip-pulled lid pocket.

What you get from the Crux 3G AK70 (RT) is the best large expedition pack on the market. Weighing only 1.5kgs yet managing loads of up to 35kgs and with a capacity of 77 litres when fully expanded. This pack is light enough to be used for a summit dash but is easy to stuff bulky, frozen gear inside easily even when you are absolutely whacked from exertion and oxygen deprivation and encumbered by down clothing.

The excellent dual hip belt, harness system and removable tubular frame is the key to the comfortable carry when fully loaded as the weight is transferred to you hips extremely well.

As with all Crux products well thought out and designed simplicity is the key to great kit.

  • 1500g
  • Removable floating lid - for more versatile load options
  • Roll-top closure sytem - bag is fully waterproof
  • Side compression straps – quick and easy to fit or remove
  • Oversized back haul loop – easy to grab and clip
  • External lid pockets with welded seams
  • Top compression strap
  • 40 mm webbing waistbelt with low-profile full-sized hip-fins
  • Two ice-axe holders
  • Stretch wand pockets
