Climbing Pack

The Arcteryx Alpha FL 45 is a design revolation that takes the beauty of burly simplicity to a new level.
If you need supremely light yet super tough kit this is the rucksack for you. We like to think of it as a 33 litre rucksack that can extend right up to 45 litres and therefore you can use it both for single day rock climbing, ice climbingAlpine climbing and for multi-day Alpine and speed ascents.

As with all things Arc'teryx there is method behind the product and its features and also behind its name. The Alpha name is taken from a whole series of product and relates to climbing and alpine focused clothing and equipment. FL stands for Fast and Light and at only 650g this pack is truly ultralight. But not every ultralight product will live up to repeated use in harsh environments, but with the construction from revolutionary N400r-AC² fabric you can climb assured that this pack will last and excel whenever you use it.

N400r-AC² is exceptionally light and strong, it is coated inside and out to create an air and water impermeable fabric that resists almost any weather condition. The packs minimal seams are 15mm wide taped too enhance this further. It is extremely abrasion resistant so you can confidently haul it and grind it up granite chimneys.

To help keep energy sapping weight low the feature set of the Alpha FL 45 is essentials only. From the thermoformed shoulder straps that cut weight without eliminating comfort, through the drawcord and roll-top closure, single water-resistant zipped pocket, 40mm wide nylon belt, high density polyethylene foam back panel, four side attachment points for sleeping pads, 2 axe holders, rope attachement strap, and 2 haul loops, through to the bungee attachment for crampons or jacket not an uneccessary gram is added.

Arc'teryx state: "Our commitment to each subtle detail may seem obsessive, but these details come together to elevate performance" and we can only agree.

One feature that we particularly like is the versatile closure system. You can close roll-top sleeve and then use a single handed closure to give a stream-lined, no catch finish to the bag at a 33L capacity (see main image). The roll-top sleeve can also be used to extend the volume up to 45 litres still with water-resistant materials (N100mr-HT and N70r-HT) and closure (see other images). The ultimate in versatility without any uneccessary frills.

One pack to rule them all!

February Staff Newsletter

February was a busy month in the shop. As well as a number of reps coming to see us, and a number of visits to make, we also attended the Run, Walk, Crawl Brecon to Cardiff Ultra, and hosted a climbing shoe demo with Tenaya at local bouldering wall Spot Climbing. We still managed to get out, and members of Team Up and Under could be found in many parts of the UK; including in the Brecon Beacons, the Lakes, South Downs, Scotland, as well as further afield in Chamonix and George L still in Thailand.
