In many tropical countries malaria is a serious and potentialy fatal threat. A few simple precautions, however, will safe guard your health. The first level of your defence against malaria should be to avoid getting bitten by mosquitos (the carriers of malaria) in the first place. Mosquito nets play an important role as mosquitos generally feed and therefore bite between and during dusk and dawn. Nets are not just of importance in malarial areas however, consider them also for any region plagued by biting insects.
All of our mosquito nets are made by either LifeSystems or CarePlus, who make a variety of nets in different sizes and shapes. Their mesh is too fine to allow mosquitos through but some smaller biting insects may be able to. To compensate for this the nets are treated in the case of LifeSystems nets with permethrin (which has a lifespan of 6 months before you need to reimpregnate) or in the case of Care Plus nets with Long Lasting Impregnation, or LLI and DAWA (a 2 1/2 year lifespan before reimpregnation is required and is resistant to 20 washes), both of these insecticides kill insects on contact. The treatment of LLI is multi layered so when one layer wears off there is more beneath. To reactivate the treatment at the start of a new trip just rub the net to wear off the old outer layer.
Various sizes and shapes are available for hanging in hostels and hotels. If sleeping in the bush, box nets with four attachment points work best. We also have a Head Net for day use and mosquito net sheeting for windows or draping over children in prams and pushchairs from Care Plus, and a Hanging Kit and Reimpregnation Spray from LifeSystems.

Care Plus has joined the World Health Organisation's Roll Back Malaria Campaign and the Transparent World Foundations drive towards more public awareness about malaria and local aid work www.driveagainstmalaria.org. Among other things, information is provided locally and mosquito nets and medicines are being offered to the local population, particularly in Africa. When you by a Care Plus® Mosquito Net, you are supporting these projects.
For every Care Plus Mosquito Net sold, one mosquito net is donated to the local population of Africa for the Transparent World Foundation’s small-scale aid projects.
