Womens White Water PFD or Womens White Water Buoyancy Aid

The Palm Extrem Womens is a womens white water PFD that is built to the highest possible standards. It also forms part of the Palm Equipment 'Gear for Women' range of products. This PFD is designed and manufactured to be very similar to the men’s version, which is the Palm Extrem.

Palm Equipment have designed the Extrem Womens to fit the female Torso, so with the Palm Extrem as a template they have made a major change. The foam on the front is a lot more tapered / wedge shaped towards the top of the PFD. Further down the BA the foam is precurved so that it wraps around the abdomen naturally, as opposed to being bent as it is tightened up. To ensure that the maximum levels of comfort continue to be delivered the inside of the PFD is lined with a stretch mesh to prevent it getting sweaty in hotter climates.

The Extrem Womens is very easy to get on; this is down to the front opening system that is initially closed with velcro. There are then 4 25mm buckles that are clipped in to make the initial secure closing. To ensure that the PFD sits in the correct position there is a base strap that secures under the rib cage and this is easily adjusted by straps on both sides of the body the final adjustment to the PFD is then made via the adjustable shoulders.

To ensure that the
Extrem Womens is feature rich, there are four front pockets. The first two are located just below the shoulder straps and they are easily accessed via zips. Both of these contain an anchor point for securing items to. The one of these also contains an emergency whistle. There are then a further two pockets on the chest. The main pocket here has got a mesh divider so it is easy to locate what is in the pocket. In this pocket there are a further two anchor point to help prevent things falling out when the pocket is opened. The second chest pocket is slightly smaller and once again it is easily accessed via a zip. It is also padded so it could be ideal for a camera or a phone, however there isn’t an anchor point in there. On the rear of the inside of the PFD there is a large pocket that would be ideal for a Hydration bladder.

Palm have also maximised the safety performance levels of this PFD with the addition of a chest harness. This ensures that in the event of any rescues the paddler can be securely attached to any ropes or anchor points that are used. The chest harness then features a double buckles system. There are two system options, one for land based and one for water based rescues.

February Staff Newsletter

February was a busy month in the shop. As well as a number of reps coming to see us, and a number of visits to make, we also attended the Run, Walk, Crawl Brecon to Cardiff Ultra, and hosted a climbing shoe demo with Tenaya at local bouldering wall Spot Climbing. We still managed to get out, and members of Team Up and Under could be found in many parts of the UK; including in the Brecon Beacons, the Lakes, South Downs, Scotland, as well as further afield in Chamonix and George L still in Thailand.
