Midweight Allround Touring Cag

Palm's Chinook is a versatile touring cag, ideal for coastal tripping as well as inland touring and open canoeing.

Retaining many features of Palms top end sea kayaking cag the Bora, the biggest difference is in the material - The XP2.5 fabric doesn't have quite as high a hydrostatic head (waterproofness)and isn't as soft to the touch as the ripstop XP3 fabric used in the Bora. The helmet compatible hood can also be completely zipped off if you just want a touring jacket and use something like a Tilley Hat for head coverage.

As mentioned, the Chinook has a zip off, helmet compatable hood, with volume adjusters which means it fits extremely well when a helmet is not worn, or when beanies/caps are worn underneath. The outer fleece lined collar has an offset zip meaning that it's easy to open and vent off if you're working hard, and poppers mean loose fabric doesn't get in your face. When the outer collar is zipped up, there's no zippper rubbing against your chin, and the laser cut holes mean you can have your face tucked into the collar and still breath. The inner collar uses an adjustable velcro closure to keep it tight against your neck when you need to batten down the hatches.

There are also double wrist seals with internal Latex gaskets, and a double elasticated, adjustable waist seal which works in conjunction with a spraydeck to keep as much water out as possible. The Chinook also has a large twin zipped front pocket, with a fleece lining, and reflective piping along are shoulders and hood, helping you stand out in low light. YKK aquaguard zips are used throughout allow as much water resistance as possible is provided to pockets and collar.

Combining the Chinook with a salopette such as thePalm Ion Bib or thePeak UK Explorer Salopette, or a dry trouser, allows for many more combinations and year round use.

February Staff Newsletter

February was a busy month in the shop. As well as a number of reps coming to see us, and a number of visits to make, we also attended the Run, Walk, Crawl Brecon to Cardiff Ultra, and hosted a climbing shoe demo with Tenaya at local bouldering wall Spot Climbing. We still managed to get out, and members of Team Up and Under could be found in many parts of the UK; including in the Brecon Beacons, the Lakes, South Downs, Scotland, as well as further afield in Chamonix and George L still in Thailand.
