Why choose an inflatable? Most inflatable kayaks steer and
move forward like an unusually stubborn brick and tear on the first
patch of rough rock or underwater tree branch they encounter, but not
our range. We have chosen the models from raft manufacturersSevylor and
Gumotex because they are tough and more rigid when inflated than cheap
competitors, so you get a proper kayaking experience without struggling
to move on the water and a boat that lasts.
The advantages over rigid boats are clear. You can fold away your
boat at the end of the day and pop it in the boot of your car, no need
for roofracks and tie-downs. When you get home, it can go under the bed
or in the linen cupboard out of the way. The are also excellent for
international travel and great for kids, because they won't sink no
matter how hard you try. You can't crack your head on it if you fall
out, and they are easy to flip back over if you do manage to capsize.
Our favourite for flat water is the Sevylor Colorado, which comes in a
solo and a double version (the double version can also be paddled as a
single by moving the seats). It's a great all
purpose model for adults, kids and anyone who wants to get into
kayaking without the inconvenience of a rigid boat. Like all Sevylor
inflatables, it comes with a tough storage bag to pack it into. The
Sevylor Sport Kayak is a great whitewater boat, tough and highly rigid
due to a high pressure floor. Available in single (SKS100), or double
(SKS200) models. For those who want a cheaper option you cannot go wrong
with the Sevylor Canyon.
