Touring Kayak or
River Touring KayakThe
Dagger Blackwater 10.5 is a
single seater touring kayak that is ideal for exploring inland water ways and also gentle sheltered coastal trips.
Dagger have included lots of fixtures and fittings within the kayak to make it
pleasureable and easy to paddle. Access to the kayak is through the
large easy access cockpit and internally within the kayak there is a
large comfy padded seat that features an
adjustable backrest. Towards the front of the kayak there is then an
adjustable pedal footrest that will offer support to the paddlers feet. On the front deck of the kayak there is then a front grab handle and also a set of elasticated decklines for storage of items such as a
bilge water pump. The rear of the kayak then includes a mini cell foam bulkhead that is sealed to the kayak. This then creates the large rear storage area that is accessed by the large
oval rear hatch. This will then optimise the storage for items such as a
drybag containing your lunch. On the tail end of the kayak there is then a rear grab handle that eases the man handling of the kayak to the waters edge. The final component of the
blackwater 10.5 which is one of the best features of the kayak is the
drop down skeg that will aid the
directional stability of the craft.
As well as the
kayak you will then need to look at a selection of gear that will make the whole process more enjoyable. The first of the major items that you will need would be a
kayak paddle. For this we would suggest that you look at a basic option of the
Carlisle Simply Magic 'Alloy', while for a slightly more advanced option have a look at either the
Simply Magic 'Glass' or maybe the UK manufactured
Streamlyte Kinetic Tour PPSF. You will then need to address the safety of the paddler and for this we would suggest you look at a basic
recreational buoyancy aid or a higher specification
sea and touring buoyancy aid. Finally then you may want to consider using a spraydeck to prevent the kayak taking on water. There are a few options of
nylon spraydecks but the
Palm Windermere is particularly well suited.
