These will benefit any hauling system by reducing
friction and are essential when building a system to produce a
mechanical advantage for lifting heavy loads. It must be remembered
here that even in a simple lifting system, the anchor attached to
the pulley will sustain a load equal to twice the load being
lifted. In more complex hauling systems generating large amounts of
mechanical advantage very high loads may be applied to the anchors
( and the pulleys ). For personal mountaineering, caving and
paddling (bank rescue) use look at Petzl Swing Cheek or Fixed Side Pulleys or as an ultra light weight emergency item the Pulley wheel could be considered.
For rescue, industrial and high rope course applications there many options with either single or double wheels, with bearings and with fixed or swinging sides.
If you are looking for devices designed for ziplines and Tyrolean traverses, see the Petzl Tandem series.
The versatile Minitraxion and the Protraxion are pulleys which incorporate a rope grab for simple and straightforward hauling. They can also be used for ascending ropes.
