Descending a pitch

Caving harnesses differ from climbing harnesses in that they are specifically designed to hold the various items of equipment necessary for moving up and down a free hanging rope, in the optimum positions. Further more they should not soak up mud and water, critical wear points should be protected and buckles etc. should not be in positions where they can catch on the cave or on you. The most crucial distinction from climbing harnesses is that they all join at the front with a 10mm semi circular or delta maillon which lies flat against the body as low down as possible. This gives the best location for a croll chest jammer but means that the harness must not be used for climbing due to the risk of turning upside down.

In addition to a sit harness you will also need some form of chest harness. These are not generally load bearing but are designed to tow your chest jammer up the rope. We have a range of both from Petzl.
