The Up and Under Centre Rucksack, is a highly durable and high performance 26L rucksack. It is as equally well suited on the hill; whether by the individual hill walker or within the outdoor education market for group use. It's also perfect for the outdoor adventurer commuting to work during the rush hour.
This Centre Rucksack is not sourced from a 3rd party supplier, with some Up and Under Outdoor Gear branding. It has been designed for a specific purpose by a few of our staff, as we felt there was a gap in the market. The design process also evolved from discusssions with key staff from some of our best customers. (You know who you are, and thank you!)
The final short list of the Centre Rucksack specifics were quality, simplicty, durability, performance and value for money.
Quality - As we are putting our name on this, it has to be perfect. There are lots of people making sacks, but we wanted to make the best outdoor centre rucksack on the market. With this in mind, we spent about 14 months looking at other packs, looking at fabrics and investigating different types of construction methods, looking at factories that could produce what we wanted. But most importantly, we asked the end users what they really wanted!
Simplicity - Having looked at many rucsacks on our display instore, we found that some of them had so many pockets, if was easy to forget where certain items were. So, thinking of how things work in an outdoor education centre, we kept it to one main compartment. There is also a small pocket in the lid, which is ideal for a bivi bag. So with this theory, there is no chance, that someone can leave a festering apple core in a pocket, before it gets hung back up in the kit store.
Durability - The Centre Rucksack features a 1000 denier nylon construction. The base of the sack incorporates a double layered design. So whilst the outer layer of nylon can be seen, internally there is a second layer to protect the outer layer. So this will help to prevent excessive wear in either direction. One of the major bits of feedback we had about many other rucksacks is the buckles come off and go missing. So we added additional length to the wasit belt and shoulder straps. We have then added a stitch back to prevent them from pulling through. (See image 11). Several customers fed back to us that with other packs they have used the draw- strings on the main storage area often fail or pull out of the sleeve. Taking this to the design process, we got rid of that sleeve and use an eyelet system, which can be repaired in seconds. (see image 7)
Performance - This covers the comfort, stability and how good the pack is to use. The multi flex back system features a 3 panel design and will easily flex to suit the back shape of the person using the pack. The Adjustable Shoulder straps contour well on all sizes of people and when used in conjunction with the waist belt, it gives a well balanced pack with regards to weight.
Value for Money - This pack will outlast anything else and has a great price point, with the added bonus of strong environmental credentials as it won't be adding to landfill any time soon. The comfortable back system also works for male and female adults and children, so its a one stop for all and can be passed out to everyone. The replaceable buckle means you can maintain it easily throughout its long life. Buy cheap buy twice they say - buy well priced, well designed, well made and fit for purpose and you'll be saving long into the future.
