The 110 graded scramble routes in this guidebook cover the Lake District regions of Wasdale, Ennerdale and Buttermere, Borrowdale, Thirlmere, Patterdale, Mardale and Swindale. Scrambling (rougher walking routes where you'll need to use your hands) is becoming increasingly popular, and is a way of enjoying the wilder Lakeland.

This guide covers Langdale, Coniston, Duddon, Eskdale, Longsleddale and Kentmere in 120 routes, graded 1 to 4. It includes overview maps and sketch diagrams of the crags and routes, and information on the approach, character and grade of each scramble.

All the selected scrambles lie within a 20km x 15km area of northern Snowdonia – a relatively compact area as far as mountains are concerned, so dead easy to get around. As well as high mountain scrambles, the book includes a few shorter scrambles near to the road, which can be done in a couple of hours. There are also suggestions for linking scrambles, to create day-length journeys across Snowdonia’s rugged landscape.
