The Tenaya Masai is currently the closest shoe that mimics the world famed Five Ten Anasazi Lace, the Masai has a stiff edge, soft midsole and a tight heel rand. This means that it will give good precision on micro edges yet is still supple enough that it will flex to give good hold on smears.
The Masai uses a microfiber material on the outer and a TXT treated cotton on the inner thus giving comfort on the foot but will not stretch out too much over time. The rubber used is Vibram XS grip (the same stuff La Sportiva use) so you can be sure of friction in your foot placement.
Developed as part of the RA project, the Tenaya Masai shares many of technical advances made in that shoe.
The major differences are that in the Masai the design has been optimized for maximum efficiency on micro-edges.
The lace-up closure means the volume of the shoe is infinitely adjustable, ensuring a snug yet comfortable fit. The climbing shoe of choice for vertical or slightly overhanging routes and boulder problems.
All the precision at the tip of the shoe: The optimally shaped asymmetric toe-box concentrates all the power of the foot into a very specific area, allowing maximum transition of force onto the tiniest of holds and providing superb control.
