The Valley Etain is a composite sea kayak that is available in three size options; Etain 17-1, Etain 17-5 and the larger Etain 17-7. It is also available in two levels of construction, Glass / Diolen and also Kevlar / Carbon.
Valley Sea Kayaks designed the Etain as an expedition sea kayak that was different from the previous designs associated with Valley kayaks. The Etain now features more of a swede form where the widest point is slightly back from the centre of the boat.
The Etain was designed to be fast and efficient while still also having some play potential - even when fully loaded. The kayak has a great deck design that includes 4 hatches, two on the front and two on the rear. The two main hatches on the Etain are both oval and offer a large size (44.5cm x 25.5cm) for easy loading. The second hatch on the front is situated just in front of the cockpit and this is easily accessed by a 14cm day hatch. The second hatch located just behind the cockpit is a day hatch and this incorporates a 21cm opening. Each of these hatches is then separated from the cockpit or the other hatch by glass fibre bulkheads.
The rest of the kayak deck then features a full array of deck elastics. The front of the kayak also then has the moulded in recess that is ideal for mounting a Silva 70P kayak compass. The kayak cockpit is located in the centre of the boat; this then features a large padded seat which also incorporates a supportive padded backrest. Further support is then achieved by the moulded in thigh braces and also the adjustable pedal footrests.
