Water Bottles
Traditionally basic low cost waterbottles have been made from moulded plastic. Whilst such bottles are widely used, they can be limited in their life span and do occasionally leak. However, we have sourced a durable bottle, the HDPE Loop Top bottle from Nalgene. Cheaper bottles are on the market but it's not a lot of fun having water or sticky drinks over clothes in your sack!
Moving up in the price, quality and alternative materials scale, Sigg developed their rugged aluminium bottles with the previous comments in mind. They can be found all over the world, up and down mountains, crags and caves. These are very durable and able to be clipped onto harnesses by their ringed lid. However, they are prone to denting, which whilst giving a bit of kudos to your bottle, does tend to make the internal coating crack and fall off. Having said this we recommend these bottles for most uses and they are particularly useful when combined with a Sigg carrying pouch which will also help to insulate them (keeping cold drinks cool and warm drinks warm). The only place we wouldn't recommend taking a Sigg bottle is to very high altitude where it could freeze solid.
Nalgene have developed the moulded plastic bottle and come up with a new material which is unbreakable and unpierceable. These excellent bottles do last extremely well and are not prone to the problems associated with the Sigg range. Wide neck openings make filling from inaccessible streamlets and adding hydration salts easier. We also provide carrying and insulating pouches. These are our favourite for winter climbers as they can be clipped to your harness with the winter insulation pouch and even if they do freeze the mouth is wide enough to hack free with a screw or axe.
