Pecker Pitons

The Black Diamond Bugaboo Pitons are the bigger and stronger brother to the knife blades, for when the cracks get fractionally bigger.

The Black Diamond Knifeblade Pitons are classic pitons for thinner cracks, these have precision ground blades so that a consistent taper is achieved. There are two clip-in holes for corner placements and to save a little weight.

The Black Diamond Lost Arrow Pitons are for use in thin to medium cracks and tough enough to withstand many uses. Numbered for quick identification from 1 to 8. Four lengths are available (short, long, wedge and dong) and five thickness (thin, medium, thick, wedge and dong). Andy finds number 2 and 3 very useful for Scottish winter climbing.

The Black Diamond Pecker Pitons are designed to be used where knife blade pitons won’t fit or where the placement is more feeble. Due to the design of the peg the force is pulled downwards meaning that the pecker has to be pulled right through the crack for it to fail. Absolutely essential for big wall climbing and aid climbing.

The Black Diamond Bosun’s Chair is a padded seat for long, hanging belays. Designed for big wall missions, the Black Diamond Bosun’s Chair allows the belayer to take a full, seated rest in between climbs, and weighs just 1.1 kg for a lightweight carry.

The Black Diamond ATC-XP is versatile and durable belay device with multiple friction modes. It has added grooves for use with thinner ropes that offers increased safety as they provide more friction and therefore more holding force when putting the rope in a brake position to hold a fall or when abseiling. The ATC XP also has a regular friction mode that is suitable for use with thicker ropes. The ATC-XP is now 30% lighter than the original design, thanks to its updated construction and machined windows through the body.

The Black Diamond Camalot Z4 is the award winning and newest innovation from BD that is changing the world of rock climbing. With a patent-pending RigidFlex stem, the Z4 camming device stays stiff in the hand, making them easy to place in cracks yet they still flex once placed, meaning they remain secure and do not walk when pulled directionally. A narrow head makes them slot easily into pockets and the sandblasted lobes give extra holding power. The thumb loop allows for easy handling when at your limit.
